The Scale of the Universe

Last night, I happened upon a great video that details the universe from the Planck Length all the way out to the size of the known universe. The Scale of the Universe got really cool when I clicked the link and found out that all of the objects can be clicked on and learned about.

Shakespeare in the Bush

Sometimes you read something that really just shifts your perspective on life. This, here, is that something. Many take for granted, without the slightest question, your way of life, your understanding of life. Here, Laura Bohannan brings Shakepeare's Hamlet to the Bush of Africa as a bit of light reading an studying. Just before she left, her friend said this: "You Americans often have difficulty with Shakespeare. He was, after all, a very English poet, and one can easily misinterpret the universal by misunderstanding the particular."

It is a really great read, I really recommend it.

Just found this short film here, and it really resonated. I am planning on studying abroad in Brussels in year three (2014-15), and this past summer I fell in love with Europe.

Strange Maps

Wow, I am stumbling across a lot today...

Anyways, my newest find has been this: Strange Maps. Anything from the map of a "Sham Paris" to a Rock n' Roll map of Manhattan. Each map comes with a little post on its background and an explanation. Go check them out, a fun little read.

The Psychology of Colour

An interesting infograph on colours. As I am going to be renting an apartment shortly, knowing colour-theory is actually quite nice if painting is ever in order.

Little Printer

A new concept. Ink is nonexistent for "Little Printer", it has specially coated paper for the thermal "ink" it uses. The paper is recycled and BPA-free, and if you print once per day, it should get you two and a half months. It should be available some time this year, and, quite frankly, I am excited. I prefer physical paper over electronic.

Glee's Rumour Has It/Someone Like You

Regardless if you are a Gleek or not,  I just want to draw your attention to this video. As the top commenter, LlsbethCrhistina, points out "[e]ven if the whole episode sucks, I'll have this to remind of how wonerdful actors they are and they aren't even talking! The looks, movements, how Santana's voice sounds." And she is right, this is great. Glee did a great job on their 300th number, let's just hope the rest of the show churns out numbers like this.

I found this video ages ago, and, still, it never ceases to amaze me. Oren Lavie's "Her Morning Elegance" is a brilliant stop-motion work, perfectly executed.

Path

I'll admit that I am an early adopter. At least, in the sense that I like to give apps and new ideas a shot. Hell, I sometimes even post on the trainwreck that was Google Plus. But, here is a little app does seemingly does things right. Albeit, Path is having some big privacy issues, but they have (hopefully) been quelled at majority's request. Here, though, is what it does do:

• It provides a very personal social networking experience, something that Facebook, Twitter, and G+ are really lacking. It tells you who visits your own Path, it keeps a cap on the amount of connections you have (150, I believe), and it just keeps things tight.
• It has a straight-forward user experience. Your new posts stem from the bottom-left, and you can update anything from a thought, to what song you are listening to, to where you are/who you are with.
• It is pretty. Not going to lie, this is a big sell for me. Being the anal-retentive guy I am, I like having my things looking neat and ordered, and Path does that and more.

KCRW

This local radio station has a listener-base across the U.S. (and I would not be surprised if it was worldwide). Playing a host to many NPR programmes, KCRW brings news at a more personal level from Los Angeles, and has stolen the radio in my car more times than not.

Elle Me Dit

Mika released his first French single, Elle Me Dit, and he does not let down. Like Mika, this song/video is terribly fun and catchy. Also, it does not hurt that some of the people in the video are very, very French (the older gentleman–Patrice Pujol–and the red-dress lady–Fanny Ardant–both are as French as French can get, and I love it!).

The Artist

A captivating love story, a serious drama about the hardships of the Depression, and an overall good tale, The Artist competes and resides alongside of the film industry’s greats. Overwhelmingly similar to “Singin’ in the Rain”, The Artist never tries to remake or retell the 1950’s musical; rather, it stands hand in hand. Probably the boldest film of the year, if not the decade, The Artist refreshingly introduces a younger audience to the thrills of the silent film. In entering 2012, I can think of no better movie to start the new year.
